Is version 4c, build 184 actually Version 4b, build 174?

Downloaded what the weblite stated to be the Vegas version 4c build 184 update, but the installation program claimed that what I downloaded is Vegas version 4b build 174, which I already have installed. I made it install anyway so the installation program removed the existing 4b build 174 and re installed Vegas 4b build 174. I also had to re-register Vegas, which seems quite strange. Vegas still tells me that I have version 4b build 174 installed.

Well... it's 10:30 am Eastern, had just downloaded the update, & after reading your post went ahead and installed -> 4c b 184 all the way...

I DL'd update yesterday p.m., installed, and it comes up as 4.0c, build 184

Try downloading again? Hopefully you're not on dial-up ;)

This is really weird. I have now downloaded the 4c update 5 times and keep getting the same results.

Just downloaded the update again (#6) installed it but no change. This time instead of letting it remove the existing 4b, I had it do a repair but no difference. Still comes up as version 4b build 174. When the update is unpacking it clearly identifies itself as version 4b. Guess I'll just leave it and wait for 4d!

Are you saving it ontop of a the 4.0b download? It worked fine for me (downloaded overnight) but when I downloaded the file I saved it as vegas40c.exe. Sure you're not runing the wrongfile (not sayin your stupid, but it worked for everyone else and maybe you're running the wrong exe).

Happened to me yesterday. When I went to update, it did a repair and it was 4b. downlaoded again, then it did an install and was 4c.

Have downloaded the update6 times on 3 different machines, so am pretty sure that I am not downloading on top of an existing 4b download. I will try again on yet a different machine. Just can't understand........

If the last post here have not sorted it out for you it's time to bring in the sledgehammer. Namely do a complete uninstall-reinstall. Here's how:
1. Uninstall using add & remove programs.
2. Delete ALL Sonic Foundry folders under c:/program and/or c:/Program files
3. Delete all traces of Sonic Foundry products in the registry. (If you are unfamiliar with registry edits, like me, try downloading "jv16" which makes it easier. Still - tampering with the registry is at your own risk.)
4. Install directly from the 4.0c download. Enter serial.
5. Done

If you use other SoFo products this procedure might be a pain since I'm asking you to delete the shared plug-ins folder as well. This means you have to uninstall and delete ALL SoFo wares and folders and start over on all of them, starting with Vegas 4.0c. Also make sure not to install to any different folders than the suggested ones.

Another thing came to my mind. It almost sounds like the 4.0b is cached somehow in your system. Should be impossible. But try to empty your explorer cookies and cached files. Then delete everything in your "recent" folder.
Just a thought...

same here. comes up as b. I will try downloading again... but it sounds like it isn't the download since you've already tried re-downloading.

When I ran the new installer, it didn't give me the option to install. I could only "Repair" or "Remove". I did repair. I didn't have to re-register though.

Try saving it to a DIFFERENT name when download (such as Vegas4c_bld184.exe). It sounds like the download is dying and you are using the PREVIOUS file.

7 times lucky! Still don't understand what happened. This time it came up as 4c, and the installation was successful and I now have 4c build 184 installed. What I did do was delete the existing Vegas4 setup.exe in the Sonic Foundry setup\Vegas4.0 file, before I executed the 4c update.

egg on my face. I somehow grabbed the 3.0c update the first time. Was wondering why I got it so much earlier than everyone else :oP
