Isolating subject

With a still photograph on the timeline, how do I isolate, for instance, a person from the background so that I end up with just the person, which I can then have superimposed on the track underneath.

I usually cut it out in my photo editing program, and paste that person onto a transparent background and save the whole thing as a PNG file. I think you can do it with masking inside of Vegas, but that seems like a slow approach to me.

If you become adept with the bezier mask in Pan/Crop, it doesn't take long to click around the person's outline.

Stills are easy - it's when you try doing it with a moving subject that it takes a while!
