it doesn't see my cam

Joni wrote on 4/29/2003, 12:18 PM
when I connect my cam to the firewire cable nothing happens.
Before, just by connecting the cam to the cable a windows would pop asking me which program I would like to use to capture video Movie Maker or Vegas Video.

Even when I start vegas and go to CAPTURE it says: CONNECT DEVICE

The control panel/system shows that my firewire card is installed and running properly.

I wonder if it is my cable that simply broke, possible???

But also, last week I took my cam to record some video from a machine via S-Video and the guys did change some settings in my cam's menu. Could be any setting in my cam??? By the way, I use the SONY DCR-TRV120E PAL.

Please help

Try connecting the camera, turn it on, and then turn the computer on. I'm using WP Pro and and this is the only way it will work for me. There must be some settings wrong but I'm not that familiar with XP so I do it the hard way!

I have tried with my canon xl1 and it works well. The pc can see the cam and I can capture with vegas.
But not with my sony. I am sure its something in the configuration of the cam but I don't know what.

Even if your posts look bad for the Sony, I don't think these problems has to do with the cam. A lot of people has had them on different cameras.
Has it ever worked?
Does the PC "see" the IEEE 1394 when Sony is hooked up or only the Canon?
Does Vegas "see" the Sony camera under Preferences?
Have you tried Render to tape, Print to tape and Capture with both cameras?
Does any of it work with the Sony?
Have you tried to connect both at once? You need two IEEE cables for that.
Or connect the Canon first - get it to work - and then change to the Sony on the same cable?
Did you install the IEEE 1394 card yourself? Any chanse of a hardware conflict? (Yes, I know. It works with the Canon, but still. These things move in mysterious ways it seems.)
Try shuffling the card to another slot - if possible. You should uninstall it first, shut down, move the card, boot up, install it, reboot (!) and try the Sony again.

Tor, thanks a lot for spending the time trying to help me.

> Has it ever worked (the sony)?
Yes, it worked until last week.

> Does the PC "see" the IEEE 1394 when Sony is hooked up or only the Canon?
The PC "sees" only the canon. As soon as I plug the canon a window pops up...nothing happens with the sony.

> Does Vegas "see" the Sony camera under Preferences?
No, but sees the canon.

> Have you tried Render to tape, Print to tape and Capture with both cameras?
> Does any of it work with the Sony? everything works fine with the canon, none of the three work with the sony.

> Have you tried to connect both at once? You need two IEEE cables for that.
don't have 2 cables. Can't buy another one here in Mozambique. Have to wait for a trip to south africa to get another one.

> Or connect the Canon first - get it to work - and then change to the Sony on the same cable?
Tried that, the pc recognises the canan but when I swap cameras it asks again to plug a device.

Yes. I have been building my PCs including DAWs for the past few years. No problem there. Anyway, trid you suggestin: moved the firewire card to another slot = nothing changes: the canon still works and the sony doen't.

hope someone here can help me

thanks

Go to the hardware device settings, under "system" in the control panel. Click on the IEEE1394 device, and uninstall it. Turn off your computer, when it powers back on, it should find the card and reinstall the drivers. If this doesn't work, uninstall the card again, only before turning the computer on, turn on your camera. If this doesn't work, you don't have a 100% compliant IEEE1394 card...

Hi,
Look at your manual about p64. I think perhaps someone reset the A/V settings. It should be set to DV out, if I am not mistaken.

Try it,

Your camera should have a reset feature that will take it back to factory defaults. I'll bet that will fix it.

Sony TR120 I have one open the lcd push menu then push the exposure dial then rotate thedial to the bottom where it says av/dv in out push exposure button again chose on if gong to the computer chose off if coming from the computer then push menu to set everything. I do this all the time and invariabley I have the camera set the opposite of what I want. With my computer I have a Siig firewire card and Vegas 4 and when I plug in the sony or turn it on Vegas does not even recognise it until I reset the camera.

Tom,

Yes, it is set to DV OUT.

JAB,

That is exactely what I am trying to do: Reset my cam to factory settings. But I cannot do it. Can't find this feature in my cam. Removed the batery hopping that the all settings would go back to its default but it did not work.

Does anyone know how to reset my cam??? or where can I find the info to do so...

please help

Bear, thanks for your post.

I have tried what you have said but...nothing.

All this is very strange because a few weeks back I could capture without any problems and without having to change any settings in my camera.
I really whish I could reset it to factory settings. Would you perhaps know how to do this.

thanks

Djoni,
Do you have the manual for your camera? You can find one at
TRV120/320
Anyway, if you take out your main battery AND you lithium battery (under the LCD screen) anything you've changed in the menus should reset. You'll have to reset date and time and whatnot afterwards.
Do think twice about it! I believe that a working 1394 connection will override seetings in the camera's menu, so you're possibly barking up the wrong tree.
Your camera can switch between analog and digital modes, right? Could you have gone wrong on that?
