J and L edits Plus feature request

I am new to MS3 and am trying the trial version after deleting my Studio 8 product.
This my be a simple question, but I cant work out how to shrink or expand the audio (or video) independently so I can get the sound to cut before or after the video. Like this ;

Also it would really help if there was a mark on the clip in the media library to indicate that it is already on the time line.

If you select the clip, once you've placed it on the timeline, right-click and choose Ungroup, the video and sound will separate and can be moved or sized independently.

The challenge is to keep from knocking them out of sync. But, if you do, simply expand both to and end point (you'll see a notch in the upper edge of each clip at an end point), zoom in close and line them up -- then you can size them independently again.
