Java for Chat Room messes up Browser

Following one of Grazie's recent invitations, I went to the "cafe" or chat room and was told that I needed Java ....

Ok I thought, and followed the link and installed it.

Ever since, my Browser (Opera) has been behaving very strangely, and even before logging on to the Internet, my Firewall tells me that "javaw.exe is trying to use EbatesMoeMoneyMaker.exe to act as a server"

I don't know what that's about - but after trying to open the browser, Task Manager showed dozens of EbatesMoeMoneyMaker.exe entries, the PC locked up and I had to Reset to reboot the system. I then immediately removed Java and things are back to normal.

So, Miss Otis regrets not being at the Chat room .....

At times like this I'm glad I don't use my Internet PC for editing.

You might try to go to Opera's site and install Java according to their instructions. I've been at the café using Opera - was OK as far as the browser was concerned.

Yeah, thanks Tors - good to hear that Opera and the Chat Room are potentially compatible!

I'll set up a Vegas Cafe that doesn't need java if you want ...

(I'm responsible for the chat system on www.worldindustries.com ;))

Nice one Grazie.

I'm hanging back on re-introducing Java since the last one also landed me with Ebates Money Maker - I mean, what could I possibly do with more money?

There's also http://www.vegasusers.com/chat/login which doesn't use any Java at all. It's entirely HTML based, with barely enough JavaScript to position the cursor now and then.

I know of a few people are using Opera with JAVA and not having any problems. Could be your system.
