Jittery Playback with Effects

Annapolis wrote on 12/9/2003, 2:08 PM
I am playing back a multi-layered video using Vegas 4 and in some of these layers I use cookie cutter effects or chromokey effects. My playback gets very jittery and blocky like the frame rate is dropping. I have the Video Preview set on Preview (Auto) and I am using a Duel 2.4 Xeon with 1gig RD Ram and a Radeon 9000 video card. I am only using 1/3 of the Ram in task manager.

Ok, how do I make it more fluid of a playback and keep the Video Preview detail at least at Preview (Auto) while playing intense effects? Is it a software limitation? Another 1 gig of Ram? The CPU(s)? A better video card like a Radeon 9800 Pro? Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

Thank you.

To make it playback more smoothly, pre-render the section. (or render the section) This is normal.

Preview of video with some FX will show jerky playback, but after you render the video will be ok.It is normal for preview even with fastest computers. Try to increase the ram preview.

Thanks. Not exactly the end result I was looking for but dedicating more ram to vegas and the pre-rendering did help a lot.

What would fix this problem? Higher end gear?

Again Thanks

Anytime you get into mulitple layers/effx you will lose Realtime preview. Not just in Vegas, but in most editing software. Sometimes hardware can help, but it usually has limitations, plus Vegas is not a hardware based application.

The best you can do is Pre-Render or render to other tracks.

Oh...sorry to hear that....I mean the snow and all.

It's just that your screen name reminds me of someone IRL that I know. Thought maybe you might be that person.

Stay warm.
