JKL crash

I'm sure this is a setting error on my part and not some sort of bug in Vegas.
I can't get JKL or any shuttle feature to work properly on my new machine:
2.8 P4 1GB RAM Abit 7 mobo | V4 RAM preview set to 0
Vegas locks up and crashes.

I checked the archives but got no where.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I think this is related to the bug I stumbled across (and which other people already knew about) which is that after using JKL, if you render, there is no sound in the render. In my case, it only happeded when the render was controlled through a script. There is a thread about this somewhere about five months ago.
