While previewing from Explorer, my clips play back at a steady 29.97 fps, however, when previewing the same clip from the timeline, the playback is jumpy and bounces around 10-20 fps until it finally RAM renders up to a steady 29.97 fps. I have a fairly fast machine, lots of RAM and I set the preview window to Preview (Auto). Oh yeah, my project format is 1440x1080, same format properties as the clip was taken. Shouldn’t I get a more pleasing preview while editing & viewing when the timeline is active?
