and am lost!!!! I bought vegas in a moment of impulse. Just got a big check from a job and thought I deserved higher grade software.....then I found out, stupid ME didn't support it....it was 399 US...so in another impulsive moment went out and bought XP,,,, I should have just bought a MAC.......but now I am in so deep! I am lost in Vegas...I know I will figure it out eventually, but I am back to the old frustration of feeling like an idiot.
Also vegas comes with all this great Boris stuff... but it is all BS and they just want you to buy more stuff. Vegas looks good but its not as impressive as I thought it would be considering the price difference between good old VF. and vegas.....I haven't really given it a chance but......you know how it is when you keep hitting brick walls!

AARRRRRGGGHHH.....back to the drawing board.

Just wait until you need a 4th video track (it will happen much sooner than you think) and you'll be very glad you have Vegas. Then there's also compositing, 3D motion, velocity envelopes, plugins, etc. ... you won't be disappointed.

Oh, and upgrading from ME to XP will be one of the most positive computer experiences you've ever had. ME was pretty much a disaster waiting to happen.

Take deep breath. Hold it... hold it... OK, now exhale. There don’t you feel better already. ;-) I have something to make things look familiar in Vegas. Follow this link to my files on the Sundance Media Group site and look for one called TrackSetup (it’s a script). Follow the instructions for changing your Vegas desktop link and Vegas will look a lot more like Screenblast Movie Studio when you start it up. (i.e., 6 tracks all labeled).

You will need to install the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 to use scripts but you will needs this eventually anyway because scripts make Vegas a lot more powerful. You can get it from the Windows Update link in you browser. You may also need to sign up first to download files at Sundance but it will be well worth it because there is a wealth of knowledge there just waiting for you to explore.

Spend a little time with the Quick Start Manual. Everything you learned in Movie Studio is the same in Vegas. Just ignore the new stuff until you fell comfortable. Load up and old .VF project and things will look pretty much the same. Don’t forget to come on over the Vegas forum and ask questions. There’s lots of good people there to help.

Leaving Windows ME for XP was the best move I ever made. Microsoft no longer supports ME. Hardware vendors can’t get their drivers certified for Windows ME anymore because its officially an unsupported operating system. Face it, it was time to move on. You did the right thing.

JohnnyRoy...I had a look at one of the scripts and I was assuming that they would be little text files which explain a procedure. Instead, I'm downloading a .js file, which when run, generates this error message:

Script: C:\whatever.......filename.js
Line: 12
Char: 1
Error: Syntax rror
Code: 800A03EA
Source: Microsoft JScript compilation error

What am I doing wrong? And what is a .js file??

Thanks!

They are JavaScript files and are meant to be run from within Vegas. You place them in the Script Menu directory like "C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas 5.0\Script Menu" (or whatever directory you installed Vegas under). Then start Vegas and use the menu item Tools->Scripting... and select the script from the list. Some scripts require you to select a track or event first and if they are well written, they will alert you of what they expect and you can try again.
