just exactly where you "grab" the media file, to drag (SOLVED)

To drag it into the timeline. This trimming tool on the preview clip is driving me crazy, more so when the clip won't drag into the time line. Realizing this was briefly discussed in another thread, I'm having about a 20% success rate "grabbing" the clip and having it drag. The other 80% begins the trim exercise.
Am I one of the few with this problem?

answering my own question, it "seems" grabbing at the top, upper left corner of the border, seems to be the only place. correct?... and that doesn't always work either.

I don't have that version, but you should be able to rightclick and drag to the timeline as well.

yes... I like right clicking if I want video only, for instance. But sometimes it just "frames" the clip and expands the frame, as I drag further away from the preview... Much like other applications, where you want to increase an area that is affected...if that makes sense.

Must be something new. I use an older version and don't have either issues.

I assume you are talking about dragging from the trimmer not somewhere else.

I would suggest once you have dragged (or otherwise set) your in & out points, you simply hit the "A" key and the clip will be inserted into the timeline at the cursor. Once you get used to working this way it's really fast to populate a timeline with trimmed clips.

thanks kinvermark….I'm presuming you mean "enter" on a PC. That does the trick and added to my workflow. THANKS. (also double clicking seems an alternate vs hitting a keyboard shortcut)

Also, to answer your original question, dragging should not be a difficult or finicky operation (isn't for me.) Maybe you should post a screen grab to better illustrate what you are doing.

OK, now I am totally confused. Sounds like we are talking about two different areas. Are you trying to load the trimmer from the project media box or trying to load the timeline from the trimmer?

Assuming you're talking about the slightly controversial new Project Media thumbnail hover scrub trimming (snappiest title I could think of), if you start the drag within about 20 degrees of horizontal then it will trim, but if you drag within about 70 degrees of vertical then it won't.
