5 hour video? Wow... and I bet every investor and employee is going to watch every minute.

sorry... don't mean to be rude here or anything... I am just curious what is on a 5 hour business plan video. You must have been going nuts after doing that editing job.

Thanks also for sharing the results of your work and how you got there. I do a lot of long-form editing myself in Vegas and I get a lot of comments from other professionals at how fast I can turn out long-form work. Vegas rocks!

Think I have seen your forum ID around before. Could be wrong since I havent tried a search. Anyway, if I am correct, is this your first big project? And how much work have you done with Vegas prior to this major milestone?

None the less, please accept my serious congradulations for a major job well done. You far exceed anything I have done thus far. Glad to hear your success story though. So far all my attepts have been positive too.

I have posted here in the past- I don't usually use Vegas for Long format - but decided to give it a go...the entire project, from digitize to final MPG2 renders took 6 days. The main reason I posted this- I have heard many complaints on render times...I have no complaints here- yes the symphony is faster to go to tape with- but the work flow of Vegas is so easy I feel overall the project went faster than the $100K symphony- not bad for the small price tag of Vegas!

I agree- 5 hours is way tooo long- and I did go crazy with all the financial info- but the client was very direct- I want everything on this DVD set! We have 9 speakers talking specifics...each one is a menu item on the DVD- so at worst you watch a 30 to 40 minute presentation and choose what you want to view...it could be worse! Hey...I did not write or concept this- just executed the plan...
In conclusion- Vegas is a great Long format, software driven system that can easily get the job done!

Yeah - I've just finished a similar corporate project. 2 days of speakers making sales presentations. 2 cameras to sync together and Powerpoint pres's to integrate in as well. 18 hours of MiniDV. End result was 6 hours 40 mins. I'd hate to watch it all in one go :-)

I think the client intends for each presenter to check out their own performance and maybe one or two other segments pertinent to their area. (Each presentation ran for around 15-20 minutes).

Was my first Vegas job. Took a couple of months part time (they weren't in a hurry so I just worked on it at weekends). Would have taken a lot longer in Premiere. The ability to edit the timeline ahead of the playing cursor was awesome. Almost like cutting live cameras.

let me ask you this. how many dvds did it take? or did you put it on dvd's at all?

I have 3 hours worth of video and the standard 4.7GB DVD disc can only hold about 2 hours worth of video in the defualt pixel format. Is there anyone who sells high capacity DVDs like 7GB. I noticed that all the professional movie DVDs are around 7GB.

These hold 7.95 gigs of space. There is also a DVD 10... a dual sided DVD5- these hold about 8.75 gigs. There is also a DVD 14- a dual sided, dual layered DVD that holds about 15.9 gigs.

Currently you cannot "Duplicate" a DVD 9 from your workstation. However...technology has advanced (Blu-ray) where we may see write- once DVD9 on the market by the end of this year! Estimated pricing has hinted at 1.2 to 3 times the cost to purchase a single disc. From what I understand- the current player can be modified by a firmware upgrade to record to these discs....we shall see

To answer your question- we wanted a good quality DVD so we ended up with a 3 DVD set

Tom...I could post a small section (maybe the open) but the rest is not something to show! It's boring...it's corporate info!!! The open is kinda flashy- all Vegas, all photoshop- all from stills....
The main reason for the post was to talk about a software driven edit system-Vegas...being used for long format. It worked like a charm! I really wanted this to work- I really hate renting an Avid Symphony for $1400 a week to do this work- when I can put that rental fee in my pocket!!
