Just found another way to adjust envelopes :)

With any envelope (velocity, volume, opacity, pan etc.) if you Click and Hold the left mouse button on a point you can use 2,8,4,6 on the numeric pad to move the point vertically or horizontally. The precision depends on the size of the track (ie the bigger the height of the track the smaller the increments from using the numeric pad). If you click+hold in between two points you can adjust both the points at the same time. If you select multiple points you can use move all the points at the same time.

With audio tracks once they are at a certain vertical magnification you get .1dB precision.

This technique is great for me because it means I can ajust a point vertically without changing it's place in time.

What version of Vegas do you have? I've tried it with V3 and V4 with no problems.

You must continue to hold the mouse button down while you adjust using the Numeric pad keys 2,4,6,8. Also NumLock must be on.

Works for me...thanks for the tip.

Numlock was my problem, it was off. It's kind of a pain to use if you're right handed and have to use your left hand to reach the keypad though.

Agreed. I think a nice solution would be something like if you hold down ALT, it constrains the envelope point's movement in time, ie they'll only move up and down. This would also be a nice option for moving events across tracks, and quicker than having to use the keypad.

Ben - yeah that'd be good. I know I've asked SoFo before for a keystroke to lock to the horizontal or vertical axis. The numberpad is a step forward for me though; it would be good on a laptop too if you're otherwise trying to struggle with a touch pad:)

Perhaps a slightly slicker solution would be to hold down the mouse button and use the scroll wheel to move events/envelopes up and down? Though you'd still need a keystroke for horizontal lock (or right mouse button....?).

Look for improved functionality wrt vertical movement of envelope points in the next update of Vegas. CTRL down + mouse move of envelope point will constrict the point to vertical movement only.
