Just mastered my first commercial DVD - yay..

Thanks to all of you for your help (and smart ideas!) ... I've just converted one of my bestselling vhs tapes to a fully authored DVD for commercial release using Sony Vegas 4 and DVD Architect. Whew! Took 4 days part time of work to get all the captures and conversions done. Looks great.

Here's a brief clip of the menu:
http://www.DaytradingU.com/winningchartsmenu.wmv

It's a bit on the amateur side still, but I'll get better with future releases (I have over 7 new videos in the works!)

I'm indebted to Bill Myers (www.bmyers.com), Spot, Jodie and all the rest of you who've helped out so much. Thanks! I'll release it via customflix.com for an initial test run, then replicate it for larger volume later..

I'm overusing my stock video/audio, need to find more royalty-free clips ... hey are the digitaljuice a/v clips as good as their jumpbacks are? other royalty free suggestions for video/music? I don't see much on ebay, and a lot of the commercial stock video/audio outfits charge a small fortune...

Ken,
I have the Digital Juice Backtraxx volumes I & II. They are outstanding. Don't buy them off of E-bay as their license is not transferable (unless it's a retailer with appropriate resale license). I like Vol 1 best as it has good variety to include wedding cuts. You can check them out (demo's) on the digital juice site. Another option is to author your own using Acid Pro or other programs. Spot really encourages videographers to learn to use it and VASST has some excellent training videos/books on Acid. Hope this helps.

Thanks Randy, appreciate it... looks like I just missed you folks, moved away from Hawaii after 10 years just back in late May ... I'll miss hawaii kai, but not the gas etc prices + taxes. (I used to run Hawaii Business Training Group, www.kencalhoun.com/clients.htm )

Mahalos for the DJ review - I like the jumpbacks I have so far...

Just make sure you read the DJ license agreement VERY carefully...

"Use of this Music for mass-market retail or distribution requires a separate license that can be purchased by contacting Digital Juice, Inc at"

Well now that SUCKS!
Isn't DJ one of those companies that advertises that they can get you out of a jam when you don't have time to create your own?
Who creates projects for family viewing that is pressed for time? What, like you've got a Christmas video you want to show on the 25th, and today's the 23rd??
Seems like another way to get you to spend extra $$$, doesn't it?

Myst, this is pretty common. "Local use" or small format use, is generally allowed with many libraries, but if you read the fine print, you get zapped. I didn't know Juice worked that way, but doesn't surprise me. You'd be surprised at how many work that way. Anything more than 100 copies with some companies requires a separate license.

They can write the license whatever way they want. After all it is their product. But they don't give a clear definition of "for mass-market retail or distribution" (or any definition for that matter).

If I'm selling 25-50 copies to some soccer moms is that "mass-market retail"?

Maybe the actual license you get with the product is more descript but it then that is post-purchase!

Depends...how big are the soccer moms? ;-)

"how big are the soccer moms"

Not as big as the MASSive head truama I would acquire asking :)

Gotta watch out for those Soccer moms..

DJ's license looks like it's only keeping people from redistributing their loops as part of a mass market package, not as an embedded work. So that's fine..

I'll check with them tomorrow..

You could check out SonicFire Pro. Definately NOT as good as doing your own in Acid or using real musos but for the musically challenged like myself who just needs something to go behind corporate stuff that lines up with the video it's a pretty good solution.

I don't see any nasty fine print, as far as I know they do use real musicians and they do get money for you buying the music.
