Just Purchased Vegas18 - Issues with out-of-sync sound and Image Size

Hello, Vegas Community!

Just purchased Vegas 18 from the recent Humble Bundle sale after using Vegas 14 for several years. However, I'm having some major issues with the software and was hoping for some help.

I edit a lot of MPEG footage and Vegas 14 had no issues with anything, so I was confused when I imported an MPEG File and found 2 major issues in Vegas 18.

- The video file has 2 seconds of corrupted sound at the start and then the sound is out of sync for the duration, with the sync getting even worse over time.
- I use 1920x1080 size footage, however when imported the video downgrades to 720x480. Not only that, but while Vegas 14 would just adjust the video size to fill the whole screen, Vegas 18 defaults the videos to not fill the whole screen (presumably it's putting a 720x480 image in a 1920x1080 screen, resulting in a black border).

Like I said, Vegas 14 didn't have any of these issues, so are there any fixes for these for Vegas 18?

My hardware specs are;
Windows 10
Acer Laptop
11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz, 2803 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
20.0GB Ram

I've searched online but have found no fixes despite these apparently being "known issues" and a lot of people suggest using Handbrake to convert the footage, but that's incredibly unpractical for me, especially since Vegas 14 was handling this just fine.

We need to know exactly what the footage is (via the free Mediainfo). By the way V18 is much, much better than V14.

(Intel 3rd gen i5@4.1GHz, 32GB RAM, SSD, 1080Ti GPU, Windows 10) Not now used with Vegas.

13th gen i913900K - water cooled, 96GB RAM, 4TB M2 drive, 4TB games SSD, 2TB video SSD, GPU RTX 4080 Super, Windows 11 pro

@andyrpsmith, the footage are MPG files with a data rate of 9000kbps, total bitrate of 9448kbps at 29.97 fps. The audio bit-rate is 448kbps, 2 channels and a sample rate of 48.000 kHz.

I'm sure that V18 is much better than V14, however for myself I consider in-sync sound and filling up the screen as a default (like V14 and every other editing software I've used) to be ideal.

Not seen this issue (but I mainly use MP4 XAVCS). Maybe you can upload a sample to a shared site so we can download and try it in V18. Media detail provided by Mediainfo is much more comprehensive than what you have provided. Do you have Vegas set to make the project settings to match your imported media?

my 2c, Have you looked carefully in your project settings and all the other things you might missed from V14 to V18?

Does the Vegas 14 render the audio delay? Plug-ins can often delay and cause glitches in preview.

I am not sure if the Humble Bundle version is different from the Magix version, but I do not recall reports of that issue with VP 14.
