Just starting

Hi Guys,
I've just purchased Vegas 10 and am quite excited to get started. However, when I place a AVCHD clip into the timeline and play it back it is all juddery, if that's the word. But not the case when played back in Windows Media Player. So have I got the initial settings wrong? It is an NTSC clip from a Sony camera shot in the US.
Any help would be appreciated

What are your computer specs? AVCHD (1920x1080 and even 1440x1080 to some extent) are very difficult to play back stutter-free except on very high end cpus. This is especially true for playback in editors such as VMS.

Hi Mark,

I have an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 Duo Core processor 4200 2.2 Ghz with 4Gb of RAM. I would have thought it fast enough to deal with the clips on the timeline.

Thanks

I think unless you use proxy files (search for Eugenia's tutorial in this forum), you will likely get a stuttered preview in VMS. Although check your preview settings (try preview (auto)) to start and see how much stuttering you get.

The preview quality is weak, but it doesn't affect the actual rendering quality. Don't worry about it.
