Just The Basics

Hi

I have read just about every article dealing with the Canon Vixia HV30 and Vegas Movie Studio +DVD 8 Platinum Edition. I found great information, especially on the Sony Creative Software Forum:
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/default.asp
As well as the HV20/30 FORUM at:
http://www.hv20.com/
All I can say is WOW, I can't believe all the steps that it takes to create a video, but I can see how easily one can get hooked on manipulating each clip, right down to the last frame. It amazes me, the almost endless selection of CODECS and FILE FORMATS that pop up, not to mention all the abbreviations used in the video market today and it seems that only a few are compatible, why are they all so individualized and only work with selected programs? Personally I think it's the competition among software developers, so eager to put their product on the market place and in the process forgot about the end user who needs to interpret all that stuff and there are many of you, on both forums, that do an excellent job for the rest of us whose basic goal is to take great videos, put in some transitional effects, burn a DVD that our friends can share whether it's a regular or HDV TV.
Well, here's where I'm at:
I bought the HV30 and I am in the process of checking out the 109 pages of instructions (OMG).
The Vegas 8 Editing program is in transit with UPS, should be delivered on 7/07/08.

I can read all the instructions but based on my experience, it will probably not answer my main questions, which I have listed here.
Please keep in mind that all I prefer to use is the Vegas Movie Studio +DVD Architect and my new HV30. It's too early to start fine-tuning with third party software.

1.) What is the best general setting (daylight) for Video Recordings using the HV30 so that the final DVD can be played on both Normal and HD TV's?

2.) Step by step (settings only) in Vegas and DVD Architect for best resolution.

3.) Final rendering settings and any other info pertinent to DVD burning (using DVD Architect).

I know that some of you have tried to come up with this kind of workflow (just the basics), but I see more time than not, the guidelines start to become cluttered with advanced information and confusion sets in again.
Maybe I missed a good guideline like this somewhere and someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Wolf713, I am afraid it is not a simple matter of what you are asking. There is no "best" setting for daylight recording because depending what you need to shoot, you might need to change shutter speed, or aperture values or exposure etc. So if you are not familiar with all that, just shoot in auto mode.

As for the DVD exports, you simply use the mpeg2 DVD widescreen template after editing on vegas, there are no custom controls to tweak it.

Thanks Eugenia
I read your crash course on Sony Vegas, about as close to what I'm looking for in that area. Seems like your a great help, all the way around.

Now if someone could just come up with a step by step from the time you start recording video to burning the DVD and finally viewing the final movie.

Thanks again for your response.
