Are you trying to capture the video using Video Capture 6.0? This won't work with a hard disc cam. Video Capture is only for tape-based or live streaming via firewire workflows.

First transfer the files to the PC's HDD, then import into Vegas using the Explorer Window or Import Media function.

Hey Bobs, er Bops
OK, so I got the files onto the hard drive.
But when I open the folder in the Explorer Window or the Import Media Function, the files don't show up.
It's like there is nothing there.
But I know they are there because I can play the files on WMP.

Never mind, I got 'em.
Just dragging the files from My Computer onto Vegas TL.
Unorthodox maybe, but it works.
Thanks B

If I had to guess, I'd say the camera uses an odd file extension that the Vegas' Explorer isn't looking for. Right-click inside the Explorer and go to View > All Files.

I think the JVC camera file extension is .mod, except in the new camera that creates .mov files for direct import into FCP.

I've brought JVC files to my computer hard drive, changed the extension to .mpg and brought the files into Vegas. At times, however, the video comes in without the audio.
Go figure!

Project is edited.
Rendering to .avi.
What do I have to do to get the image UNsqueezed from side to side.
Images are taller/narower than reality.
No settings seem to make any difference.
Camcorder, i thought was native 16:9, but sure looks like 4:3 on the TL.
Thanks

Found the files lurking in project media.
They arrived there when I dragged them from Windows Explorer.
File extension appears to be MOD

Is your project set to widescreen?

What PAR is shown when you view the media's event properties?

0.9091 (NTSC DV)
Changed to 1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen)
Changes one event, but doesn't transfer when I copy and paste attributes to the rest of the TL.
Do I have to do this to each individual event?

There are scripting tools that work with Vegas that speed along things like this, but I believe you can change the pixel aspect ratio by right clicking on the media in the project media bin and then changing it there, and no matter how many times it's split up or repeated on the T/L, it will be changed throughout.

Alternatively if you are wanting to change the pan/crop or the pixel aspect ratio and you have a ton of stuff across a large project, things like Ultimate S Pro, Production Assistant, and Excalibur can all help with this.

Just good stuff to know.
