I think one is the consumer version an dth eother the pro version.
Pro version has balanced audio and higher res viewfinder.

Do some careful research, seems yes it can be considered an entry level HD cam, can be the critical word there.

I just read the fine print in JVC's rebate offer, and if you bundle this camera w/the HM DH-30000U HD D-VHS video recorder/player, you get a $400 rebate. So for $2100, if you order both from vanns, you get both this camera and the D-VHSvcr-which has had stellar reviews. Looks like manufacturers have decided to make the migration to HD irrestible. What do you guys think of this combo ?

On it's own it is a great deal.

But - you cannot currently capture mateiral directly into Vegas or PTT from Vegas to these. (At least any HD/D-VHS material) Also the DH-30000 has some issues and the newer 40000 model is out. (You can find the DH-30000 for under $500 if you look around) If you do get this combo make sure the DH-30000 is the one with the "fix" in it. Otherwise you wuill have to go through the whole send it in to JVC for the free "fix" routine. I would higly sugest reading posts over at http://www.avsforum.com and looking in the HDTV forums. (The 'HDTV Recorders' thread is probably the best one to read for what you are asking about)

Or the mfgr is trying to get rid of inventory--not sure which is true.
