Have you cleaned your air vents, heat sink, and fans? Dust is one of the biggest causes of shutdowns when the CPU is being overworked.

What are you using? System description? Sounds like heat, memory, Cpu speed, video card, or all of the above.

suggestion.

before you render close all the preview windows, so that only the timeline is open!

then render,

nb do a system clean-up frequently and like others say clean your vents ect to get rid of dust.

the main reason for the crash may be that you have those preview windows open though, my xp sys used to do that until i found this bit of advice on the forum.

the computer doesn't crash, just vegas. i made a clip of two video i downloaded from youtube and they worked. when i try and render ANY clips i've collected from my hauppage (videogames) in m2ts format it crashed vegas about halfway through the rendering. never had an issue until recently. i downloaded this from sony. if i delete it will i be able to redownload it?

also angry at youtube for not accepting m2ts format any more, never us to have to render it at all. just upload after recording, and now it won't record in mp4 (dammit). 5

I am having the same problem. My laptop died, bought a new one, reinstalled the software brand new, and now it wont render to the hard drive, it is NOT a hear/dust/CPU issue, nor is it a drive/memory issue. IT's a software issue. Cant get sony to answer the tech support query either. Not sure what to do. Everything worked perfect for a while and now I feel like I waste over 100 bucks on this piece of shit software that doesnt work. It would be nice if Sony would unlock whatever the hell they locked so I can get my business running again.

I'm shooting from the hip here.

Any new programs/updates recently installed?
Any programs (IE anti-virus) running in the background?
Plenty of HD space?
Are any timeline files corrupted or not recognized?
Does the program 'close' at the same point each time?

Sorry I'm little help but it's my opinion the most simple things should be eliminated first because it's very easy to over think these sorts of annoyances.

BTW....I can relate to your frustrations.
If I come up with any other thoughts I'll try to assist.

Carry on.....
