Keyframe/pan crop Question, maybe related to Jedtv Latest newsletter.

I noticed the other day when I was keyframeing a pan/crop of a sho,t it did something Ive never noticed before.
Here's the deal:
relativly static video shot,( I actually time streched the portion of one of my stock shots by 20%) stays full frame for about 1 second, then I added a key frame about 3 second later. That key frame was cropping the shot by keeping aspect ratio locked and just moving the left lower corner up diagonaly to do a small zoom (the upper right hand corner of the pan crop box stays at the corner of the frame.

Now here's what I noticed when I play back from the start of the clip.
If I'm watching the pan/crop box ,1/2 to 3/4 of the way to the second keyframe , the pan/crop box actually overshoots the upper right corner of the frame , then comes back down. I know that the upper right corner of the pan crop box didnt move when I placed the key frames. I tried setting the keyframes to smooth, as well as a couple other like fast and slow but it still does it. And you notice it in the movement when veiwing on a tv monitor, both in the movement as well as seeing a black edge in the right corner as it moves the box outa frame then comes back.

Hope I'm explianing this so you guys understand, if not I'll post an example.

Do you have a spare keyframe diamond on the pan/crop timeline? This has happened to me before. I'll forget to hit the sync to cursor button and think I'm working on one keyframe when I'm actually building another and it's hidden behind the one I thought I was working on. Try sliding the keyframe around that is about where you see the glitch. I bet there is one hiding there.

Set the "Smoothness" control to 0%, (not the same as setting the keyframes to smooth), and it should take care of your problem.

Thank for the responses
Randy , I checked for that too I know how sometimes they can appear stacked on each other : )
Dan you win the prize, I tried that earlier but "missed it by that much".
what I did was set the smoothness to 0 ..but I didnt realize that that is keyframable. I has set that but on the second keyframe. when I went back I noticed that the smoothness was back at 1 then ramped down till the next keyframe.
Made sure they were BOTH at "0" and all is right with the world.
Thanks again.

Yes, the smoothness setting can definitely cause some problems. By default it is 100 and in a LOT of instances it should be 0. There's also all of the different settings for the keyframes as well (i.e. linear, hold, etc...)

You can also run into this kind of problem if you zoom and pan at the same time.
