Keyframes 0 > 100% Smoothness (Still Confused)

This is embarrassing considering I've been here a few years and hence not a total newbie, but it seems that I have a (correct or incorrect) preference: I have Vegas default to 100% smoothness for I always ended up changing the default 0% manually, be it in Pan/Crop, etc.

And yet it seems that common wisdom seems to go for the 0% default. I realize it's a personal and per-project and desired effect or interpolation choice, but could someone explain the applications of one versus the other?

I.e. when would one lean towards using higher or lower percentages.
I.e. is it more applicable to video (fast or slow motion) and/or stills.
I.e. whatever you can share to enlighten me :)

Last, as the few of you here that know me know, my overall visual style definitely leans towards the slow-motion, mellow/artsy stuff--not sports, documentaries or high motion material.

Sonic:

The two blues have the same parameters so they should look the same.
The Orange in #1 with the linear setting has a constant speed over the range of movement. In #2 with the smooth setting it supposedly smooths the motion out. You will notice that it starts out slower then speeds up and then slows down coming into the corner. It almost appears to stop for a moment in the corner (while the #1 does not). It then starts out slowly, speeds up, and then slows down into the other corner. Admittedly the difference is rather subtle but quite noticeable when you realize what is happening.

These were both made with 3 keyframes. Each set of three were made equal. That is all three keyframes in each movement were the same.

OK, Terry, I stand corrected in that the two vids aren't identical results--though as you said, there is a subtle difference. Truth is, my attention has been on the blue in both for it's that kind of smooth or curved motion that I'm most interested in.
