Keyframes moving when events are trimmed?

ScorpioProd wrote on 12/2/2007, 2:15 PM
I edit a project in VP8, I do some keyframed color correction on some events. Then I go and trim the in point of the events. I look at the clip again and find my color corrections are now in the wrong places. Apparently the keyframes don't stick to the time code of the actual event where they are placed, but instead are relative to the in point of the event?

Is there a way to avoid this? If I did a track based filter instead of an event based filter would the keyframes ripple with the event trimming and not give me this problem?

Any solution? Thanks.

Yes, they're relative. They don't scale. So if you have a 5 second event, set your keyframe from 0 to 100% (0 = start, 100=end) in 1/2, then slice the event, the first one will be 0 to 50 & the second will be 50 to 100.

Protype scales them. I find it pretty annoying, especially when you want to add a few seconds to the end.

There is a "Lock envelopes to events" button. Have a look at the help/manual for a little more information.

Locking envelopes to events is different than keyframes. I ran into the OP's problem in my recent Bezier mask-fest. I had to draw my mask on an almost frame-by-frame basis. Each mask is represented by a keyframe. I made the mistake of trimming an event after I had started drawing my masks and all the keyframes were then off. Nightmare. IMO keyframes should lock (or at least have the option to lock) to a particular point in an event and even travel with that event. Period.

Peter, I agree totally. I have similarly run into this problem, for example when altering event length (e.g. by dragging a transition) after having keyframed pan-crop in a detailed manner. A real time-waster as well as frustrater, goes against the general "quick & handy" nature of Vegas. There should be a radio button to select event, track (timeline) or media for the keyframes to be set in relation to. I guess that for backwards compatibility, the default should be as at present.

If you're trimming the front, why not just SPLIT it where the new beginning should be? Then the old keyframes will be on the pieces of media you delete and the other keyframes will still be in the right place.

maybe i'm doing something wrong but if I set pan/crop keyframes (~10) through a 15 second clip I can slice & they don't change their relative locations in the clip (i can move them around on the TL & the pan/crop motions are always in the same relative place). I can change the start/end points of the clip & they don't seem to mess up the keyframes except it looks like it stacks them up ontop of eachother instead of deleting them.
