labels on clips

I know you can label "tracks" but is it possible to label individual clips? It would be very handy to be able to do this!

Yes.

Under Options / Preferences, check "Show active take name in events". This will label each clip with it's file name. You may then right-mouse-button click on the clip and choose properties to fill in the Active take name. You can also click View / Edit details, to get a spreadsheet view of the clips and enter all the take names there.
