Largest Still Accepted in V6?

What's the largest jpg still that can be used in vegas 6? I just tried loading a BIG file (12,000 x 8,000, a little over a gig) and it crashed. Is size limit based on pixels or file size? Is this the same limitation as in V7?
Thanks.

Edut: I cut the image down to 8,000 pixels wide and it now fits...but I would like to squeeze more out of it without a ton of trial and error.

Vegas either doesn't have a limit, or the limit is so high that you'd probably never experience it. The real limit is your system's memory. Vegas expands the still image to 24 bit uncompressed RGB while using it. Your 12,000 x 8,000 image would need over 260MB, which is on top of what Windows, Vegas, and whatever else you have running are already using.
