Last Issue needs to be resolved before my purchase

I have been using VV3 for about 6 months and tried many Authoring tools. I recently downloaded Vegas 4 +DVD and played around with it a bit. I love the general look and feel. I love the import option for chapter points. Overall, I feel the product has tremendous potential and well worth the higher price tag compared to competing products.

The last issue/question :

Navigation

I can navigate among menus fine, but navigating from a video clip always returns me to the main menu. I set up my dvd as follows:

splash screen
Main menu
link to movie (play all movie)
link to chapter selection menu
Chapter selection Menu
6 chapters within that one movie

If I play the movie from the main menu, the back and menu buttons return me to main menu which is fine.

If I play a selected scene from menu 2 and hit back or menu, I always return to main menu instead of the chapter screen where I came from. I guess this is because of the link from the main menu to the entire movie.

Is there a work around. Most proffessional dvds give the option from the main menu to play all or navigate to scene selection. I'm not trying anything super trick here.

Am I missing something?

Thaks for any help:)

I don't think you're missing anything.

DVDA does seem very limited in it's navigation control compared to rival products. I'm cutting them some slack as it's version 1.0 . I hope that the feature set will improve in due course. I have bought the upgrade because where else can you get such a good editing program & 5.1 encoder for that money ?
DVDA will sit idle for the momment & I will upgrade when it's feature set improves. Until then I will be using my Vegas edited video & ac3 files in my other DVD authoring applications.

I just found a post way back where SonicTony states reqarding making a chapter return to the submenu instead of the main menu each time:
>>>>>>
If you wish to change this behavior, you need to modify a propery of the video on the main menu, such as moving the in or out point. This will force DVD Architect to create a separate "program chain" for the two different instances of the video, each returning to their respective parent menu.

>>>

Does this create two copies of the same clip on the DVD or just references the same clip in different ways? I tried it with a small clip and the navigation seems to "behave" :) I just don't want it to put two copies of the movie on the DVD.

Any help is appreciated.

No. They will be separate titles referencing the same video (i.e. only one copy of the movie on the DVD). This will only affect the behavior of the go back button. The menu button always returns to the main menu.

Thanks!

Has there been any word about a upcoming patch to address some of these issues in more of a supported method?

Great support forum!
