Late Night Belated Vegas 6 Wishlist

I guess I'm way late,

but how about After Effects-like mask modes ( None, Add, Subtract, Intersect and Difference) for the bezier masking tool, which would allow you to generate and refine complex paths through Boolean-like operations-- similar also to Illustrator's pathfinder operations, used to combine shapes or cut out shapes with other shapes.

I guess we do have a kind of Subtract-- if you assign one mask as Positive and then a mask within that one Negative-- but...How might Vegas's version of Bez Masking go WAY beyond AE's and Illustrator's,sted of just playing catch up (sso easy for a non-programmer to say , eh?)--But nonetheless, Now that'd take some out of the box thinking, Ya! I can almost smell it-- it's there...somehow...

gnight and bestx3,

OK wISH LIST Time

I would like

1) More HDV stuff !
2)An Improved media Generator
3)Ablity to zoom in and out and enlarge the Viewscreen Independantly and move it around
4)A Mojo.. Separate Pheripheral...
5) ability to create an EDL File for Neg Cut
6)What would be really cool is if you had two instances of vegas open.. You could select sections Including all effects ect and copy an Paste into the other I suppose they would both have to stay open like frame server in order to both use media files from the Media bin.. A bit like nested Timelines but more advanced...Because you could move footage around ect...

Just a Wish list Not an Expectation !

mark : you can already copy from one instance to vegas from another, I don't get your point...
Grazie wrote on 12/1/2004, 7:18 AM
"Including all effects" . .you can't get t/m k/fs in Copy and Paste . . well I can't do it . . can you Nat? Pray tell?

Grazie

HI Nat

Imagine you have EDITED a sequence...

Edited Media clips added sound FX and Video FX..

.Now lets say you want to add this sequence to another project... Use your selection edit tool to select the Area... Then Copy this....

Next open up the Project VEG you want to add it too...

Then paste it in..

THE whole lot...

NOW When its pasted in Imagine you could still edit those Clips you just imported.....

Yes Grazie I See NOW what you mean :)
Grazie wrote on 12/1/2004, 8:34 AM
. .yeah . .bummer . .

Now, the thing I would like to happen is , after dicking about with a load of tracks and so on, to be able to "loop highlight" and then export this lot to another instance of Vegas .. WITHOUT THE NEED TO render to new track or render as .. or whatever . . rendering takes time and my ideas are too fast for the need to copy paste and then reintroduce .. Yes I can save as and then open same as copy AND then delete all the "unnecessary" stuff .. but the time I've got this far I've lost the plot! . .I'd have all the kfs and other bits and pieces in place ready fore me to start afresh. This is what Vegas has allowed me to do and explore .. . it is this last fence that could make a real difference .. render times and the like don't really worry me .. it is the flexibility that Vegas has trained me to expect that I want to use EVEN further . .

.. . sermon over . .

Grazie

Grazie,

You could always frameserve (using Satish's plug-in) to another instance of Vegas. Wouldn't this do what you're asking?
Grazie wrote on 12/1/2004, 10:25 AM
No. I want to "isolate" that which I've worked up - KFs and the like - apearing in another instance of Vegas. Doesn't frameserving create rendered frames of the piece in another instance of Vegas. Neat, but not what I'm banging on about. . . I want to be able to carrying on edioting that which I've developed as being ready for further edting/treatment. - yes?

Grazie

Grazie, I think this ought to fit into the whole nested timlines thing. You ought to be able to lasso select stuff and then choose to fold it into a sub-veg. From there you should be able to drag and drop the whole thing.

Some of the problems may lie in the nature of the beast. If keyframes are tied to timeline coordinates it might be harder to pull a bunch of events off the timeline and get the keyframes too. Not impossible, I'd think, but maybe it breaks the model.

With a nested Veg, or sub-veg, or "scene" as Flash calls it, you ought to be able to translate all of those keyframes into the new veg file.

-another window, amongst Media Bin, Gen Media, etc that's named Storyboard and where we could just move thumbnails around and re-order them as we wish. In the end, we would push a Generate button which would drop these clips in the order we just organized them on the Timeline.
A little like Media Bin but with the possibility of re-organizing our "stories" in a quick way.

-save with transparency. tried it with no success lately and always ended up with black background.

-nested timeline, as long as it doesn't slow the machine down (I already work with 2-3 instances of Vegas openend with different chopped parts of project that "acts" as sub-parts and everything's not that bad.)

And a question: is it possible now to have an edit list ouput that would be exportable to Avid/FCP ? These private companies, they all have either one or the other or both... Never had to use it now but soon I'll have to and I'd like to be able to work at home with Vegas then give these guys what they ask for so everybody's happy.

OK-- and how about on top of bezier mask modes that allow multiple mask interaction, along with someone else's dynamite suggestion that they also be endowed with transfer modes (we call em composite modes) like in Photoshop where you can toggle through em on -the-fly with the [ and the ] shortcuts.

AND, AND then how about -- OK here it is, NOW we're cooking with gas--

how about a REVEAL and CLONE mode (ala Combustion or Photoshop) where a bezier mask REVEALS or CLONES from designated tracks (only make them multiple assignable rather than singly assignable).

Now wouldn't that be a development that would turn our beloved bezier masking into -- a monstrafied, vector-based, multi-track - video eating ...thingy. Add all this to some way to straight-forwardly interface Vegas with Kaoss's new Entrancer (real-time audio/video controller) and Shezaaaamm! OK-- I think I've got it all out of my system.
