latency

After recording an initial track, for example acoustic guitar, with the metronome I sing over it. When i play it back, the vocals are about a quarter of a second behind the guitar. Every track I record over the guitar is delayed exactly the same so all the other tracks fit together but their all delayed about a quarter of a second behind the metronome and of course the initial guitar track. What's the problem?

Record the metronome!!!! Seriously, or better yet, record a bunch of metronome tracks at different tempos and use em as needed

take a spiky event, like a metronome, send it out the outputs and record it back into vegas. In preferences-> audio properties you may need to slide it around to make up for the difference Between where the play started and where the recording began.

Drop a marker on the peak of the original event and drop one on the peak of the new event. Set your time display to "time". Double click the timeline between the markers and look at the length selected in the bottom right corner of vegas. This number (at least up to vegas 3) was the number you wanted to offset in preferences by.

Are you using asio drivers? I experience the exact same results in Acid 4.0 when I use asio drivers recording midi,, I never record in vegas but I'll try to replicate your situation,,,,,,,

I can't understand why the first guitar track is ON time, and the rest delayed...
