Layers

Hi,

I have a picure that has a number of symbols on it, and I was them to 'peel away' one by one, leaving the original minus what just disappeared. I'm thinking that maybe I can use some sort of layering, so that the original which sits at the back could effectively be blank, but each subsequent layer is transparent except for the symbol, so with all the layers in place it looks like one layer with everything on, but as the layers peel away, the symbol disappears, does this make sense?

Thanks in advance

I would do this by creating a separate image file for each version of the picture. Each subsequent file would contain one less symbol. Line these up on the timeline, overlap them, and then add the Page Peel transition to the overlaps.

Kelly: If I understand correctly, I think your suggestion would peel away all the symbols each time -- even the ones that are supposed to stay.

Have A B C on the screen. Page Peel to an image with A B (i.e. C is gone). The page peel would show A B C all peeling off, though an A and B remain below that.

And one (annoying) problem with the page peel is that it doesn't respect the alpha channel of the source, and I don't think you can completely eliminate the "back of the page" tint. So even if you want to peel off just a small image or photograph on the screen, you always see a translucent, screen-sized page peel away.

You might be able to do this using some other transition, like a 3D fly-in (or fly-out rather). Make or edit your symbols in a program that lets you specify a transparent (checkerboard) background and save the symbol as a .PNG format.

You can add a transition like a 3D fly-out to an individual event (i.e. rather than in between two events) by dragging a fade curve at the end of the event, then dragging a transition and dropping it on top of the fade.

Tim, you're quite right. I didn't think of that.

You could use individual images with a transparent background so that the remaining images show through, but the peel effect is going to be a bit odd. It's worth a shot though.

Hi there all,

Many thanks for the tips, I'll give this a try. it will be interesting to see which of the suggestions looks the most authentic, i.e each symbol falls off the image one by one leaving the ones I want to remain in place, yet the ones that have peeled away are conspicuous by their absence.

Thanks I'll post back with the results
cheers...
