Lou, where is this advise: "In this specific case I get the best results by following SCS's advise to use the "Computer RGB to Studio RGB" FX." What is the advise targetted at?

The advise he is following relates to video that is in "Computer RGB". The problem with following SCS's advise is that his video is NOT Computer RGB! In the case of his video the blacks are at 16 and the whites are at 255. If you apply the ComputerRGB to StudioRGB then the blacks become around 28 (WRONG) and the whites 235 (correct).

What you want is curve that leaves the blacks where they are and maps the superwhites from 255 to 235. I believe Glenn's project file includes a custom Color Curve that does exactly that.

This issue is somewhat compunded by the use of LCD monitors that can crush the blacks. I've been caught out by this more than once. They just do not display the dark greys, everything at the bottom ends up looking black, it's hard to see that you're lifting/ washing out the blacks or crushing them.

Bob.

Thanks for your clarification, Bob. I'll do some experiments with these curve settings and see what it looks like.
