lcd tv versus crt

Up to now I have rendered movies and burned them to dvd for playing on my own crt tv. But now I want to make a dvd for my parents. They have a brand new lcd tv (pal, 720). How should I render movies and burn them to dvd, optimized for their tv. They have a plain and simple dvd player, which can do progressive scan, but no 'upscaling'.

You just burn the same way you always burned. DVD resolution is always 576p/480p and these TVs will automatically get to that mode.

Things change only if they get an AppleTV device, in which case you can create a higher bitrate h.264 file at a higher resolution (1024x576 or 1048x576 for PAL widescreen) which will yield better quality than a DVD.
