Learned something new about the playhead

While reading Jeffrey Fisher's review of Vegas over at DV.com I noted that he said there were keyboard modifiers for the playhead. So I looked in the Vegas help file and, sure enough, there they were!

I've been kind of annoyed with the playhead because it drags so slowly. As it turns out you can press the ctrl key before dragging and it drags very quickly. Or, and perhaps even easier, you can right-click and drag for the same effect.

As always, it's a good idea to read through the manual for every new version. Too bad I didn't do it!

Usually I start with the assumption that a software feature actually works. Not with this one though. The creeping playback head just gave the impression that they'd grudgingly included one to quell the feature requests.

I wonder if most people expected the faster playback head behavior that you get with a ctrl+drag?

To me, this seems like a lesson in what not to do when you design an interface. these things need to be more obvious and if the playhead had defaulted to a faster behavior and then used key modifiers to slow down (like the jog tool does) it would have been a bit more consistant and maybe even obvious.
