Learning more about the Render Process

Can someone suggest where I can go to learn more about the render process; to actually understand what everything means. I have 2 1/2 hours of video tape I want to put on one dvd. I was told to render at a lower bitrate but I don't know what that means. Can someone just tell me of any good reference material that I can learn more about this stuff? I love using my program and have some training material on Vegas itself, but nothing addresses the basics that I really need to know. Thank you very much!!

This may help:

Bitrate

The only thing that matters is average bitrate. The minimum and maximum values should be left at their default values. Also, always use one of the DVD Architect templates as the starting point, NOT the default template.
