License Agreements for Intellectual Property

I came across this site in my search for using copyrighted material with the owners permission (which can be challenging). Basically its called a "Creative Commons" license. To summarize its a contract between the original creator that grants limited rights to be used in the public domain without contacting any intermediaries (ie ASCAP, BMI, etc..) Permission to use the content creators IP, whether music, photography, video, etc..., Is already implied without having to search for the owner of said work. Some restrictions apply, their is no transfer of ownership, and the contracts are available for download. There is obviously more but check it out.

First view the movie:

Then read the site for more info:

So for all the threads that ask about using copyrighted images or music for their production, this MAYBE an answer to your situation.

Edit: Here is another link for all the content that is currently available under CC:

Very interesting concept and worth reading and checking out.

Depending on the spin that is put on it, however, getting permission to use others work in your projects is pretty straight forward.

a. You find out who owns the work
b. Contact the owner
c. Find out what it will take to use the work (and under what circumstances)
d. Pay

Thanks for the read.

Yep, interesting concept. In downloading the agreements though, I didn't see a limited scope of expiration on the agreements. This alone would make any major publisher immediately shy away from licensing your works, if you have a non-expiring 'free use' agreement regardless which of their 11 choices of agreement formats they offer.
But that's on the authoring side, not on the acquisition side. I can't see any downside to acquisition using this concept.

Very promising -- great potential here. Thanks for sharing it.

I found a music sharing site a week or two ago some people here might be interested in:
http://www.magnatune.com/

You can liscence music there. They will give you a real time quote. The price is based on the song, what you're using it in (movie, TV, wedding video, etc), and how much of it you want to use.

Also, they will provide almost any format you want the music in (even uncompressed WAV), and 50% of ALL procedes go to the artist you bought the music from. Nice. :)

But, they don't deal with any music lables, so some songs aren't available.
