License Problem with Updates 7.0b

producerjim wrote on 11/8/2006, 7:04 AM
Somehow, when I was downloading the Vegas 7.0b updates, I missed a license agreement window. Now I get this message when I start Sony Vegas 7.0:

"The MSSQL$SONY_MEDIAMGR service does not exist or the current account does not have enough privilage to manage it."

Oops! I don't know where I missed it, but now when I restart my computer and first open 7.0, it says I can't use the media manager or effects plus (both Vegas 7.0b updates I imagine). A "Product Activation" window comes up but it seems to be frozen and never lets me stinkin' agree to the license. I've tried it several times.

Any ideas? Do I have to download the software all over again?

I tried to just download the updates again, but it says I have to add/remove the entire program before it will let me update it again.

(Sigh) Thanks!

add/remove & re-install. see if that works.

A simple re-install should fix this. Not a license thing else nothing would work (I think).

If this does not then use windows "Add or Remove Programs" to remove all versions of Vegas and all versions of the Media Manager that you may have (MM will appear separate to Vegas in "Add/Remove...") then re-download and install latest version from Sony site. Your licence is already recorded in your system registry and should need no intervention from you.

You may need run Windoes Update to get lastest version of MS SQL

Or, turn off MM and you wont get that error anymore. Well, at least in 6 it would stop that error,

intel i-4790k / Asus Z97 Pro / 32GB Crucial RAM / Nvidia GTX 560Ti / 500GB Samsung SSD / 256 GB Samsung SSD / 2-WDC 4TB Black HDD's / 2-WDC 1TB HDD's / 2-HP 23" Monitors / Various MIDI gear, controllers and audio interfaces

I had the same error msg. I was able to fix this problem after finding this thread from the Acid forum.

Taken from the above thread.

Reinstalling Notes

Uninstall ACID Pro 5.0 and/or Vegas 6.0
Uninstall Sony Media Manager 2.0 (if listed)
Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (SONY_MEDIAMGR)
Uninstall Sony Sound Series Loops and Samples Reference Library if installed.
Completely delete the Media Manager directory.
Normally this is C:\Program Files\Sony\Shared Plug-Ins\Media Manager.
Reboot (seriously)
Try to close any running applications (esp. those in the system tray) – the SQL server portion of the install can be touchy regarding other running applications.
Run the ACID or Vegas installer.

The SQL Server Desktop Engine portion of the install can hang if other applications are running. Don’t forget system tray utilities. Try to minimize the number of apps running.

I don't have Acid, so obviously I only did what applied to my system. I don't know exactly what did the trick, but it now works.
