Limiting use of windows PF

Does anyone have a tip for limiting the use of windows page file when using Vegas Movie studio 9.0? I find that when I am editing a larage file Vegas tends to englarge the Windows PF to a point where the program eventually stops responding. I currently have the maximum amount of ram for windows XP (1GB) so expanding ram is not a solution. Any help will be appreciated.
DWC.

The information you have on XP is not correct - it can definitely address more memory, the exact amount being limited by the version of XP you are running. Step up to 2GB and you should see a big improvement!

XP Pro 32-bit will take up to 4GB RAM.
Some older motherboards, however, may not take that much.
YMMV

Up to 4GB of RAM - I would seriously question that. My PC (XP Pro 32bit) has 2 x 2GB sticks because RAM should always be installed in equal pairs. However, available is only 2.75GB found out by right clicking on 'My Computer' > Properties.

Well, if you are not going to believe me (I do my homework), maybe you will believe Microsoft.

Once again, that is because your RAM access is limited to 3GB by your motherboard.
