There is also an interesting clue at the end of the tutorial. It seems that it works in two passes. The first pass generating a logfile with the moves, which are applied on the second pass. Now if you do a first pass on a clip that is genuinely shakey then apply that log to a clip that is smooth it should generate shake.
I second the New Blue FX. I just did a title sequence where I wanted the titles to vibrate and jump around and ended up using the New Blue FX's camera movement presets. Looked good and didn't take any time.
