Live Capture w/ No tape?

Is there a way to live capture into Vegas with out having to capture from tape?
My DV deck passes component video via firewire from my betaSP deck and currently I have to record to mini dv first before capture with Vegas. Also, can the reverse be done? Play out of Vegas and not have a tape in my DV deck so that I can pass through my DV deck back to my beta deck.

Absolutely - both can be done (we do it every week).

For capture, turn OFF device control.

For output, in the File - Print to DV Tape screen, make sure you choose MANUAL control.
