Lo-Res/highly compressed clips

Anyone have any general suggestions for using low-resolution, highly
compressed AVI files in a project that is getting output to DV? I am
making a portfolio video that contains earlier works that were mastered
for smaller multimedia formats. I know you can't squeeze blood from
a stone, but I am looking for hints as to polishing these a bit for
presentation on NTSC video..

One possible idea you could try ... i'm assuming that these are probably lower resolution as well as compressed.
If they get enlarged to full screen they'll probably look very pixellized. You could use pan/crop to set the cropping
to a larger size than the clip. This will make the clip play in a small "window" in your final project and prevent it
from being enlarged so much. You could use the black border space for some ID information (clip name, date,
etc.) which could help it look a little more professional too. As long as your audiance knows these clips were
originally mastered for multimedia, they may associate the small size with what they're used to seeing on their
computer screen when watching multimedia clips.
