Lock event to track WITHOUT locking event...

DJPadre wrote on 9/20/2006, 12:24 AM
make sense??

what i wanna do is lock an event to a track.. lets say weve got a 3 cam 1hr multicam setup...
now coz i shuffles these events, sometimes these events jump from track to track (yes i DO move REAL fast when im on the timeline...)

so what i wanna do is lock the event to the track itself.. sure i can lock it, but thenm i cnt shuffle it.. all i wanan do is lock the event..

for the life of me i dont know my vegas doesnt do this... if it does, im blind to it...

Rt Click on Event

Video Event Props > Lock

Audio Event Props > Lock

Auto Ripple works + other stuff I can see.

Hope this helps.

DJ? I'm having a problem with what you are wanting: "thenm i cnt shuffle it.. all i wanan do is lock the event.. "

Sorry :(

dont mind me, my bad typing.. .

ok, wel i want to lock the event OT THE TRACK..
I can lock the event, but then i cant move it.. what i want to do is lock the event to a particualr track.. lets say vid track 3...
now, i still want to shuffle it across... but i DONT want to shift it up or down (to vid track 2 or vid track 4...

when moving whole projects around, locking events to tracks comes in handy, as this way, when u drag, u dont have to worry about keeping the mouse on the SAME track as when you clicked to begin the move...

make more sense?? hope so.. sorry im jsut all over the place.. my head is in a million places..

I understand you and don't have a direct answer however before moving it you could solo the track. At least that way you have a visual cue as to what track it belongs on.

yeah tried that.. but one thing i noticed is that Vegas scrolls back REALLY fast.. while it scrolls forward a lil bit slow... most of teh time i work wth about 7 or so tracks (titles, overlays, composites etc etc multicams (95% of my work is multicam)... snap to and ripples dont work as they all shift along, on each repsective track as opposed to shifting along to the final point of teh clip prior to that group of events.. , so if ther are blanks in there, theyd be filled and everythign gone out of sync...

a visual would help, but as it scrolls so fast, i have to "nudge" the drag as i move those events back... then zoom in and refine that group of events to get closer to the alst event...

tried embedding a timeline, but that gets boggy and isnt as fast as having everythign there in front of me...

oh well.. :(

Right-click whilst drag-scrolling to toggle the scroll speed between fast and slow. Works in soundorge too.

Hope this is of some use.

Alternate your tracks: Video track, audio track, video track, audio track, and so on. Vegas won't let you drop a video event on an audio track or vice versa, so you'd at least have a one-track "safety zone" above and below..

Yeah, it's a big dumb kludge, but it's all I got. ;-)

LOL

thougth about that.. but its not very nifty for 3 cam multicamming with a clapperbaord sync as u cant really see the waveform spikes coz theyre small and spread across 3 tracks (6 in total when counting video).. with so much "kludge" in the way... :(

Hey Vegas makers!!!!! Can we please have a "lock event to track" in switches please?? LOL
Also when using the group pointer (that lil triangle thingy (selection edit tool) that we use to click and and highlight a group of events) can we keep that "group" in tact and NOT lose the grouping when we have to click to out marker and zoom in as we try to finely fit that group?? then just give us a "release" selection button or somethign so we can release that newly formed group...

Sure we can use the Grouping KB command... but then were locking events to others and that too defeats the purpose of certain other events and ....

well u get teh gist..
