R. click on the track then click on "SWITCHES" and take "LOCK", thats how I do it.

You can also use AUto-Ripple function, set to Affected Track and when you slip the first of all the clips on a selected track, all the rest of the events on the track will follow.

I don't have a "lock" option in that menu-- I just have mute, solo (and invert phase for audio tracks). how do i get the option to show up?

You must be on the AUDIO track, click on the VIDEO track.

there is only switches>mute & switches>solo for video tracks

i dont think you can lock the track, just an event in the track. right click on the event
