Export with the "cineform" codec under the custom AVI dialog and you won't be losing quality.

If I understand you correctly, I would render in Video for Window (AVI) and choose "Cineform". I cannot find Cineform under AVI

You may not have cineform installed.

If your original material is all DV then render to DV .avi. The quality loss will be nonexistant or nearly nonexistant.

Except if he added plugins. Cineform is installed on all recent Vegas versions.
