Long-Timers: Historical Upgrade Prices

I'm still chugging along on VMS 4, which I upgraded from Screenblast 3 several years ago! I'm about ready to shell out some more $$ to Sony. But I know that VMS 8 is supposed to be here in July. I can wait. But should I?

Right now I can upgrade to VMS 7 platinum for $50. That's pretty sweet. But I am trying to remember Sony's history of upgrade price. Wasn't the upgrade from VMS 4 to 6 like $50, and like $75 if you wanted platinum? Do you think that will hold true for 7 to VMS 8? Or does anyone think the upgrade will remain at $40 and $50, respectively, as it is now?

I just don't want to upgrade this month for $50, and then find out the upgrade to 8 is the same price if I would have waited a month.

Thanks guys!

Wow. No opinions?

Okay, these are just opinions... guesses...

Here's a link to the upgrade page: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/shopping/category.asp?id=111

Note that the current upgrade to VMS Platinum is $49.99, regardless of whether you are upgrading from VideoFactory, Screenblast Movie Studio, VMS 4, VMS 6, etc. This seems typical of Sony's policy, to not have separate pricing structures depending on how many generations you are upgrading through.

Sony has announced some time ago (when Vegas 7e came out?)that VMS 8 would be available in July, but I haven't heard anything more about that. Typically, if you buy a version X software, and version X+1 comes out within 30 days of your purchase, Sony will give you the upgrade to X+1 for free. But thats when you actually buy version X -- I don't know what they would do if you upgraded to version X, then X+1 came out.

If you are in no hurry, I'd just wait. It's June already, so hopefully sometime in the next 20 to 50 days, we'll see VMS 8. But I do highly recommend upgrading. I started out on VMS 4, and upgraded to 6 when it came out. There were a lot of additions in the 4-to-6 upgrade that I really appreciated (keyframed effects, 4 video and 4 audio tracks instead of just 3 of each, etc.)

Again, just an opinion on my part. If you've waited this long, just wait a little longer.

Yeah, i kinda agree with the wait. It's been this long for you with version 4, so what's a few more weeks?

Thanks. It helps to get other opinions to add to my own. I appreciate it!
