Longhorn question

I know the SoFO "isn't allowed" to talk about the future of VV but maybe someone has an idea how Longhorn's replacement "WinFS" is going to affect all of us who have our drives formated FAT32 and/or NTFS. I would hope the the OS will be backwards compatable but so far I read that WinFS will 'replace' Fat32 and NTFS so does that mean if you upgrade to Longhorn you will be unable to use VV?

SF also cannot comment on an OS that can and will change drastically before it's actually released. I also seriously doubt that Microsoft would leave about a billion computers currently formatted with FAT. FAT32 or NTFS high and dry with a new file system.

Don't worry about an OS that won't be out until 2005. Concentrate on the now.

... and when it's out, better wait a little while for them to fix the bugs and for the "hardware community" to set the drivers...

Sort of like how all this talk of Sony buying up SoFo eh? Oh..but we can't talk about how it might change the future of the products we all discuss here because than we wouldn't be thinking about now, we would be thinking of the future. ;)

Actually the "WinFS" system will be out before LongHorn is released, from what I understand it is to be used in the next SQL release. Besides my quesiton was more about if one could look down the road ahead and see if VV will be "longhorn" capatible. Some people have server issues, some have database issues - well most of use here have NLE issues and it is good to talk about these things. If no-one looked into the future we might still be making movies with nitrate based B&W Film with hand cranked cameras locked down while the action moved around it.

Considering that right now VV seems to only work on Windows we could think that SoFo is working 'with' MS to make sure that when Longhorn does come out the SoFo line will play nice. Failure to consider the 'WinFS' or Longhorn OS would be, perhaps, an indication that VV has no plans to continue that far. Which in turn leads back to that Sony issue.

Hmmmm...there is a movie is here somewhere.
