Looking at Vegas 23, but wondered about the Hub licensing

Looking at purchasing Vegas 23, but wondered about the Hub licensing for Premium stock footage. There are 3 options but the wording is a bit confusing.

100 Downloads Premium Stock Content - Within one year of purchase of the contingent - $4.99 - Lifetime license - new

500 Downloads Premium Stock Content - Within one year of purchase of the contingent - $9.99 - Lifetime license - new

3000 Downloads Premium Stock Content - Within one year of purchase of the contingent - $19.99 - Lifetime license - new

What do they mean by within 1 year purchase of the contingent, is that the Version of Vegas? So the stock content will only work for a year unless you upgrade? Why does it say Lifetime License if it is limited?

Thanks for any clarification!

Vegas Pro 23 can be purchased under either of two arrangements:

  • Lifetime (formerly named 'perpetual license') - this is a one-off purchase and you get version updates but not upgrades to later versions (e.g. Vegas Pro 24). Even when later versions are released, you can continue using Vegas Pro 23 plus you can also get upgrade pricing to later Vegas Pro versions if so desired. BTW, many Vegas Pro versions can happily co-exist on the same computer at the same time - so an upgrade to a later version does not 'replace' the earlier version.
  • Subscription - this is paid by the month or annually and you get both version updates and upgrades to later versions; however, access to use Vegas Pro only occurs if the subscription is active (i.e. payment continues). If payment stops, access to Vegas Pro ceases.

Scrolling down the above Vegas Pro 23 product webpage shows what comes with each purchase arrangement. Both Lifetime and Subscription have the HUB Starter Pack and the Usage Limits are shown, the Subscription arrangement having more generous quotas than with Lifetime.

The Learn More link takes you to the HUB Services webpage which shows the cost of Refills. This means that if you use up all the Hub quota that initially came with Vegas Pro, you can purchase a refill (or top up) which gives you a new Hub allowance but that new allowance needs to be used within one year of the refill purchase otherwise the unused quota expires. For example, if buy a stock content refill of 100 but you only download 60 within that one year, the allowance of 40 expires and does not jackpot to the next refill if purchased.

The reference to one year relates only the time in which the refill downloads need to be acted upon. It is my understanding that there is no time limit on the usage of stock content that has been downloaded.

In the refill webpage information, the use of 'Lifetime' refers I believe to Vegas Pro that has been purchased under the Lifetime purchase arrangement - different Hub allowance rules apply to Subscriptions.

I'm sure that someone on the forum will chip in if any of the above needs further explanation.
