So when recording in 16x9 format on the GL2, would the image quality or resolution be compromised when played back on a wide screen TV since the image is stretched to fill the wide screen?

After all this, he asks, "So when recording in 16x9 format on the GL2, would the image quality or resolution be compromised when played back on a wide screen TV since the image is stretched to fill the wide screen?"

All it takes is to answer this question is to simply capture a few seconds of 16x9 video, output it however you plan, then view it on a wide screen tv. If you don't own one, go into BestBuy or somewhere.

You, the Bride, and Groom are in for a rude awakening my friend. Please post back and let us know your experience.

Looking back through the replies, Laurence said that on the GL2 the 16:9 mode is letterboxed 4:3, so resolution will be compromised by expanding the image to fit a wide screen TV. Remember that your camera is SD anyway, so can't deliver an HD image.
You should shoot in native format (4:3) and later you can crop the image to 16:9 in post. But really just view 4:3 on the 16:9 TV. Or you could hire an HD 16:9 camera and practice a lot before hand; a lot.

Summarising all the comments above, the general consensus is:
1) don't film weddings;
2) if you must, be competent and be prepared;
3) if you're not competent, at least prepare and hope for luck;
4) if luck runs out, prepare for flak.

After reading everyone's comments I have purchased a Sony HDR-CX760V camera. Now I have a true 16x9 HD camera and an older SD 4x3 camera. I will be using both cameras at the wedding. I feel like a professional already!!

So know my dilemma is which resolution should I use HD or SD. Probably an easy decision for [r]Evolution and others alike, but it's entertaining and comical to ask the question and read anyone's input.

So let the schooling continue. LOL

IMO the bulk of this thread has been a complete waste of time because early on the participants all responded to the OP's inquest into what a faux 16:9 delivery was going to do. The answer was simple and it hasn't changed.

Shoot in the format that you intend to deliver and stick with it. Hmm did someone already say that 20 posts+ ago?

For my part, all video is shot HD 16:9 and delivered on Blu-ray hi-def. Wedding clients love this stuff.

That's a good way to stop dead all advice. Obviously you know all you want to know.

It takes sooo much more than that.

Good luck with your wedding shoot.

The original post didn't say it was a 4:3 sensor camera. It took a few posts for that to come out.
