Motion Blur and if you're animating it in Vegas you can add Supersampling to get better motion blur. As this can only be added on the video bus you need to render out the thing being composited to an uncompressed AVI with alpha and bring that back into a new / main project.

Nested Veggies are Greeeet! Don't like something? Click on it, and re-edit away from the main project. Save nested veg and your changes in this nested veg are automatically updated in the main veg project.

You can do your keyframing for the fly in, then copy the event and put it on a track below, add light rays to the lower track and add a composite envelope, play around with the composite level and the light rays strength and position and poof, got yourself a pretty decent trail

Remember that you can bypass motion blur on ANY track you want to, just by selecting the bypass button on the track you wish to bypass blur on.
