"Looking for Real-Time Help"

GeoffCampbell wrote on 1/24/2003, 9:37 PM
My name is Geoffery Campbell, and I would realy like to speak with someone one-on-one about "Vegas Video." I'm wondering if it would be to much to ask if I could video conference with someone via MSN Messenger, or Net Meeting.

Also, I live in the Philadelphia, PA area, and would like to find someone nearby with whom I could get together with, to help me learn this program. I'm a 58 year old male, and I've had this program for over a year, and can only do the basics. The learning curve is so high, that I'm afraid by the time I'm able to use the program with some sort of proficiency, I'll be on Medicare, and won't remember why I got it in the first place.

Since this forum is sanctioned, and monitored, by Sonic Foundry; I feel comfortable giving out my two e-mail addresses: mail4u2read@aol.com or
geofferycampbell@hotmail.com

It's 10:35pm EST on Friday, 1-23-03, and I am on-line under both addresses. I know how to send, and receive, Instant messages on AOL, but have never done so on Hotmail.

I would greatly appreciate any response!

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer,
Geoff

Hopefully you will find someone to teach you. You might want to look for a V.A.S.T. tour: http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/aboutvasst.htm to attend.

In the meantime you can find out lots of info here by reading previous posts, viewing the tutorials and by posting questions here.

Hi Geoff:
I'm 53 years old and have been working with Vegas for about 18 months. There is no quick way to learn and retain all the intricasies in Vegas overnight. Part of the fun is constantly discovering the features and how to apply them to my work/creative endeavors. It's on the job training for me.

This Forum is great. I suggest you read the section of the manual pertaining to your specific question first then post a specific question here if you don't get the results just from the manual.

Browse and read the posts here, too. I copy the posted questions and answers that I am interested in and paste them into a WORD document. I have a WORD page/file for each topic of interest. I am constantly adding posts/answers to these files for immediate use and future reference. There's usually three or four ways to get the same results in Vegas.

Also, fly, walk, drive, swim to the next VASST Tour Vegas Training seminar within 1000 miles of your home. I didn't go to one here in LA about a year ago and could kick myself. Luckily, there's one coming here in February that I'll be attending...just in time for VV4 & DVDA.

I'll give you the best tip for internet assistance you could ever come across..
you said "I'm a 58 year old male" - next time, try "i'm a 18 year old attractive female who gets sooooo hot listening to those nerdy guys who know how to talk-tech.. "

Well, little dishonest but by god it works! lol (<- nobody ever explains all the "lingo/abrvs" like LOL.. sure you know most of them, but on the chance you don't, here's good guide :

While i'm assuming things - by your statement of "i'm online right now" - I would assume you don't have a dedicated DSL/Cable internet line?
It is expensive,,, but necessary to have for online learning, once you have a dedicated internet line and highspeed ... you'll never go back to dial-up

So like snicholshms mentioned, READ THIS forum.. consider it like your morning newspaper (also, follow links to the guides some vegas users make, they are REALLY good)... and above ALL.. keep PLAYING and playing with vegas - don't get discouraged!

"old dogs" CAN learn new tricks!!

keep on it!! you'll get it!!!!
(and thank GOD you didn't go with Adobe Premiere for your video editing needs, oiy-vey! that's a bugger to learn)

Tadpole

1. You are soooo right! "you'll never go back to dial-up"

2. Yes I do now, "consider it like your morning newspaper"

3. I really laughed at the netlingo link - BRILLIANT! Sent it to a friend - THX! ESP - "ILICISCOMK" - yeah?

4. The thing 'bout old dogs . . they've learnt a lot already! Just need to keep piling it on - yes?

Cheers

Grazie

Geoffery,

It does take some learning as you say. Vegas Forums on Creativecow.net and here are very helpful and friendly so don't be affraid to post even the simplest questions: you'll get quick friendly answers for sure. There are also many sites with tutorials (creativecow.net vegs forum has links and you can find more in sundancemediagroup.com: if you post for links to more tutorials you'll get 'em too..) I believe there are some tutorials on sonicfoundry - here - It is well worth reading through them and trying the tricks out...If you would like to chat about something in particular then let me know: I may be able to help though I am an amateur editor!

cheers,

Paul.
