Looking for some input

I'm about to purchase two 1TB Fantom external drives. One for raw files/work in progress and the other just for back up purposes of those files. Without doing a RAID array, which would be better......setting up a backup, or simply copy/pasting everything periodically to the second drive so I can have immediate access to the files?

I just need some input on a streamlined process without some huge elaborate setup.

Thanks,
-Brad

Have just been through the same study some months ago when my old backup program did not want to follow me to Windows 7 64 bit.

After some searching and testing different products I found the GFI Backup (gfi.com).
I installed it and and it is now doing a great job.
Here I have set it to backup every evening (could be more often) and it does this nicely to the external drive (here through Gigabit Ethernet) - and the backup files are just accessible through the Windows Explorer (no zips etc).
For some directories I backup everything, for others I let GFI Backup syncronize the files so that when I delete a file in the original then this file is also deleted in the backup.

Hey thanks man. I'm going to check it out soon.

Quick question. Can you set up multiple backups from different sources to different sources? Meaning the C: drive gets backed up to the F: drive on "x" schedule and the D: drive gets backed up to G: drive on "x" schedule. If GFI did that, it would be nice.

Yes, I do it too. Actually it is 2 (or more) alternating backup jobs - but it works well.

HP MediaSmart Server. Does all the work for you.

I second that... great for multi PC backup and music/video (even HD!) server.
