Press "Q" to "deactivate" the loop region.

You can also set a preference to "collapse loop region" (or something like that) in which case you just click anywhere on the timeline for the loop region to disappear.

Also: Move one of the triangular sign on top of the loop region to the other triangular sign and the region collapses.

For this effect I hit "i" then "o" to set the in and out points to my current position. It's real quick.
