looping problem

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this. I'm using Sony Vegas Studio 9. After importing and editing the video frames to the timeline, when I reached the end of the video I'm seeing the beginning of the video continuing at the end. I think this is called looping, but I don't want that. I want the beginning at the beginning and the end at the end. What did I do wrong? I'm ready to render and copy it to a DVD. Please help.

Thanks.

Look at the top edge of the event on the timeline near where the video goes back to the beginning. Do you see a little white triangular notch there? I so, you've dragged the end of the event out past the end of the clip. Simply drag the end back to that notch. Alternatively, if you've got a LOT of event past that notch, you can put the cursor there, press S to split, then delete the rest after the split.

OK, I have deleted it. It was a duplicate of the whole video. I thought it was the same video starting again from the beginning. I would like to know why there was a duplicate. I would not like this to happen again. Do you know the reason?

Thanks for solving my problem so quickly.

Vegas treats all events as loops. If you drag the end of the event out past the end of the clip it merely starts over from the beginning again. The best way to avoid this is simply not to extend the event past the end.

There is a switch that disables looping. What happens then is that Vegas will continue to show the last frame rather than going back to the beginning. This still doesn't prevent you from extending the event past the end of the clip, but at least it won't start over again. You can access this switch by right-mouse-button clicking on the event and choosing Switches / Loop. You can set all the events in your project at the same time by selecting them all, then going to Edit / Switches / Loop.

But, once again, turning off looping doesn't prevent you from extending the event, so not extending the event to begin with is the better solution.

I don't remember extending the event, but perhaps I did it unintentionally. But I will certainly take your advice next time. I was wondering what Switches was all about, so thanks for explaining it all to me. I'm sure I will have lots more questions later on since I'm only now starting to learn about video editing.
Thanks again for your prompt attention.
